Alignment aligns multiple sets of scan data of the same object to the same position. It is useful when scanning an object in multiple sessions or scanning additional areas after turning the object over. Alignment mainly adjusts the position and orientation of each set of data.

Select the scan data you want to align. Use automatic alignment or select corresponding features in overlapping areas to help align the scan data, depending on the options available in the software. After alignment, check the seams for ghosting, misalignment, or overlapping surfaces.

Note: Automatic alignment requires sufficient overlap and recognizable features between the scan data sets.
If the alignment is inaccurate or some areas or features are still missing from the aligned data, try one of the following:
Select the two sets of scan data to be aligned. Use one set as the reference and the other as the data to be aligned.

Rotate the two sets of data separately to locate the areas captured in both scans.

Following the software prompts, select corresponding pairs of feature points in the two sets of scan data. Choose features at the same physical location, such as sharp corners, hole edges, or prominent protrusions. At least three pairs of non-collinear points are usually required.

Click Preview to let the software calculate and adjust the position and orientation of the scan data.

Rotate the model and zoom in to check whether the overlapping areas match and whether there is any ghosting, misalignment, or overlapping surfaces.
